Editorial policy

Lifting heavy weights carries real risk, so we hold our tools and guides to a simple standard: accurate, sourced, and easy to understand.

How we research

  • We use primary sources: peer-reviewed studies, position stands from bodies such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and official federation documents.
  • We open and read every source we cite. If we cannot confirm a figure, we do not publish it.
  • We write every page ourselves. We never copy other websites’ text, tables or images.

How we check calculators

Every formula and coefficient is listed with its source on how our calculators work. Before any change goes live, an automated test suite checks the engine against hand-worked examples and published results. Changes are recorded in the change log on that page.

Review and updates

  • Every page shows the date it was last reviewed.
  • We review every calculator and guide at least every six months, and sooner when new research or rule changes appear.
  • Our aim is for every guide to be reviewed by a qualified strength coach. Where a page has been reviewed by one, their name appears in the box at the end of the page.

Safety standards

Every calculator shows a safety note. We never encourage beginners to test a true max, and we remind readers to use a spotter or safety pins and to speak to a doctor if they have an injury, a heart condition or are pregnant.

Independence

Advertising and any future affiliate links never influence our results or advice. Affiliate links, if used, will always be labelled.

How to report an error

If you find a mistake, please contact us with the page and what looks wrong. We check every report and correct confirmed errors quickly, noting calculator fixes in the change log.
